Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment in which sperm is collected, washed, and placed directly into the uterus of the patient. The process is carried out when the patient is in the most fertile state. During the ovulation period, sperm is placed closer to the egg and therefore, it increases the chances of pregnancy.

IUI is not advised for every case of infertility, instead, it is only recommended for women or couples who:

  • Are diagnosed with unexplained infertility
  • Want to use donor sperm
  • Is identified with mild male factor infertility
  • Have poor sperm parameters
  • Have been diagnosed with sexual dysfunction

How Do We Approach?

We are entitled to give our patients how we approach them while performing the procedure of IUI.  IUI is a patient-friendly infertility treatment option where medical interference is limited. It is minimally invasive and relatively affordable. Once the placing of the sperm is completed, the other steps necessary for conception are expected to take place naturally in the patient’s body.

It is our responsibility to choose the healthy sperm and carry out the procedure on time as these can directly affect the success rate of IUI. So, when you choose, we make sure you are provided with quality treatment options.

Use of Ovulation Induction Medicines

Studies indicate that when ovulation induction medications are combined with IUI, the success rate of IUI increases. Therefore, we recommend particular ovulation induction medicines to our patients prior to their natural ovulation period.

We Monitor the Perfect Time for the Procedure

IUI is better carried out close to ovulation. This ovulation period can be tracked using hormone testing or ultrasound, but the patient is supposed to strictly visit the center. We do not recommend trying to detect the ovulation period using fertility monitors or ovulation predictor kits at home, because, we cannot take any risk with you.

How long does the IUI procedure take to complete?

The IUI procedure is somewhat similar to a simple gynecology exam that takes 5-10 minutes to complete. The sperm is collected beforehand, isolated, and washed in our andrology lab. We look for the most motile sperm to place in the patient’s womb to increase the chances of conception. The placing of the sperm is carried out using a soft catheter that won’t disturb the sperm. Cramping after the procedure is normal.
